Inleiding
People not from Arnhem might have to search a little for this mural, located in the centre of the city. Local residents, however, know the Jan van Dommeringpad, which leads to the Singel and provides a shorter route to this work by Sivanski (Arjen van der Heide), which has adorned the wall since Sonsbeek ’16 and has become a well-kept secret in the city.
For this exhibition, the Arnhem-based illustrator and tattoo artist Sivanski traded soft skin for hard concrete. His work asks the question: what happens when a tattoo artist approaches urban surfaces as if they were human skin? By combining figurative and abstract elements, he creates a playful, sometimes intimate intervention that makes the often cold urban environment more accessible and warmer.
Just five minutes away, on the facade of Café Bosch, there is a second mural by Sivanski from Sonsbeek ’16, through which he subtly transforms the city and invites visitors to explore and be surprised along the route.
