Artist Spotlight: Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven and poster launch

As part of Sonsbeek 2026, co-commissioned with Hartwig Art Foundation, artist Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven presents an Artist Spotlight talk on Mystic Hexagram, her flower and herb carpet installed in the heart of Arnhem for the duration of the exhibition.

Van Kerckhoven will share the thinking behind the work: a double spiral drawn from the form of the Milky Way, read through the spiral's ancient symbolism of fertility and renewal, and connected to her ongoing fascination with Eisenstein's MLB and the spiral. She will also speak to how the carpet responds to Arnhem's history, positioned as a counter-movement to the satyr heads on the neighbouring Duivelshuis.

The talk marks the launch of a free poster on Mystic Hexagram, designed by Andreas de Pauw, featuring an aerial photograph of the finished carpet alongside Van Kerckhoven's essay and the research behind the work.

She will be joined in conversation by Sonsbeek 2026 co-curator Christina Li. The event will be conducted in English.
