Special screening and Q&A of The Last Responders by Forensic Architecture and Earshot

Sonsbeek 2026 presents a special screening of The Last Responders, a new investigative film by Forensic Architecture and Earshot. The screening will be introduced by Elliot Bourne (Forensic Architecture) and followed by a Q&A. 

On 23 March 2025 in Tel al-Sultan, Gaza, Israeli forces massacred fifteen Palestinian aid workers travelling in clearly marked humanitarian vehicles, later burying their bodies and vehicles in a shallow mass grave. Earshot and Forensic Architecture worked with the Palestine Red Crescent Society and survivors of the massacre to digitally reconstruct the incident with unprecedented precision.

The Last Responders is an investigative documentary arising from their collaborative research. Anchored in the testimonies of the two surviving medics, the film weaves together their accounts with video and audio recordings captured on the night to expose some of the numerous acts of abuse, execution, and concealment that took place in Tel al-Sultan over the course of the attack and in the hours and days following.

After the screening, Elliot Bourne, Forensic Architecture Advanced Researcher and Research Coordinator of The Last Responders, will answer questions about the film, situating it within Forensic Architecture’s wider practice and offering further insight into how the investigation and film were developed. This will include discussion of the Situated Testimony method and how it engages with memory and trauma. 

Earshot is a not-for-profit organization producing audio-led investigations for human rights and environmental advocacy, bringing advanced audio forensic analysis to open-source investigations.

Forensic Architecture is a research agency based at Goldsmiths, University of London, developing new techniques and methodologies for investigating state and corporate violence through spatial, architectural, and media analysis.
