Sonsbeek Art Club
Inleiding
ART IN PUBLIC SPACE NEEDS PEOPLE WHO KEEP LOOKING
Sonsbeek is unique: Europe’s oldest recurring exhibition of art in public space — the first of its kind. For 77 years, art has lived outdoors in Arnhem, woven into the landscape and the city, with Park Sonsbeek at its heart. Through the Sonsbeek art club, we are building a circle of people who help sustain Sonsbeek over time. The art club helps keep this art accessible, creates space for experimentation and reflection, and brings Sonsbeek’s rich history — its archive, stories and traces — back into view.
A NEW PUBLICATION EACH SEASON
Four times a year, something new appears around Sonsbeek: a route through the park, a voice that draws you into a conversation, a video portrait or a small publication. Each focuses on one work, one place or one archival story, allowing you to encounter Sonsbeek differently: with greater precision, proximity and depth. From time to time, there is also a public event in the park or the city, such as a collective walk or an on-site conversation. You are welcome to join.
WHY TAKE PART
What we make is first shared with the circle around the art club. Later in the season, an open version is shared with everyone and the material is added to the Sonsbeek archive — made possible in part by the Sonsbeek art club. You help not only to find stories and traces, but also to preserve them: what appears does not disappear, but becomes part of an open archive.
DISCOVER SONSBEEK WITH FRESH EYES
Your contribution enables us to search, listen, document and share: traces from the archive alongside the park as it is today, conversations on location, and material that is created and published — light in form, precise in attention. In this way, you help keep Sonsbeek alive in the park — season after season.
*Your contribution covers one year. Afterwards, we will invite you to take part again.
