Coming Up: Workshop Miniatures Sonsbeek ’16 and Sonsbeek ’58 at Plaatsmaken
29 November 2025, 13.00hr – 16.00hr, Plaatsmaken, Arnhem
Inleiding
Do you remember Sonsbeek ’16: transACTION? This edition was curated by ruangrupa, a collective of artists and curators from Jakarta, Indonesia. With the theme 'transaction’ the public was invited to use the artworks in the park for gatherings—from parties and weddings to lectures. In this way, the artworks were not only viewed, but also activated by the visitors themselves, creating a strong sense of connection between people and artworks. Sonsbeek ’58 was very different: at that time, the exhibition consisted of a more traditional presentation of no fewer than 337 sculptures. Visitors could view and enjoy the works, but interaction was not yet important. The size and diversity of the works—from many artists from all over Europe, including a striking number of Italians—offered the public many different insights into developments in European sculpture at the time.
Under the guidance of artists Liam Siepel and Ajna Lorincz, you can recreate an artwork from these two editions, while the Sonsbeek team tells you more about the various works. Together we will make a collection of miniatures of artworks that have been on display in the twelve editions of Sonsbeek or are still on display in Arnhem. As a participant, you will become part of the rich future history of Sonsbeek.
In addition to the miniatures, you can also create your own screen print. Working with shapes inspired by the Sonsbeek visual style, you decide how to fill in your design. You’ll go home with your very own Sonsbeek print—on a shirt, bag, or other canvas. For screen printing, please bring your own shirt, tote bag, or other canvas.
Celebrate the history of Sonsbeek at Plaatsmaken. Mark your calendars for Saturday 15 May 2025 (13:00-16:00). Admission is free.
