Coming Up: Workshop Miniatures Sonsbeek ’86 and Sonsbeek ’55 at Museum Arnhem
18 October 2025, midnight, Museum Arnhem, Arnhem
Inleiding
When you walk through the sculpture garden of Museum Arnhem, it is as if you are walking through the history of Sonsbeek. There are no fewer than eight permanent works from different Sonsbeek editions. You may recognize a few, such as Rebecca Horn’s Venustrechter (Venus funnel) or Jenny Holzer's stone bench, both from Sonsbeek ’86. Henry Moore's bronze sculpture Warrior with Shield, once on display at Sonsbeek ’55, is also part of the collection. These two editions are the focus of the miniature workshop at Museum Arnhem. Whereas Sonsbeek ’55 mainly featured stone and bronze sculptures—often human figures, such as Moore's warrior—Sonsbeek ’86 presented very different work. Many of these artworks were so fragile that they could not be displayed outdoors, but were exhibited in three glass pavilions specially designed for the exhibition.
Under the guidance of artists Liam Siepel and Ajna Lorincz, you can recreate an artwork from these two editions, while the Sonsbeek team tells you more about the different works. Together we will make a collection of miniatures of artworks that have been on display in the twelve editions of Sonsbeek or are still on display in Arnhem. As a participant, you will become part of the rich future history of Sonsbeek.
