International open-air sculpture exhibition: Sonsbeek '55 builds on Sonsbeek '49 and’52. The lawns around the white villa in Sonsbeek are once again awash with bronze and stone sculptures by the French Neoclassicists and their Dutch, Belgian and Danish disciples, among others.

"(...) once again a fascinating overview of sculpture since the second half of the last century", states the catalog's appendix. According to Mr. Doelman, however, the emphasis this time is on work from more recent years. Nevertheless, many familiar faces, including Rodin, Maillol and Moore, are represented again. In his introduction, chairman Jan de Goeijen again speaks of the nature of Sonsbeek, which, thanks to the enrichment of sculptures, is said to provide a moment of "salutary tranquility and intense enjoyment."
