Family workshop with Fanja Bouts

After the successful launch of Fanja Bouts’ deep mapping booklet, which accompanies her Sonsbeek 2026 commission, Bouts returns to the park to give a different workshop catered to families with young children.

Drawing on her background in physics and environmental sciences, artist Fanja Bouts explores the complexity of human and more-than-human systems. Deep maps move away from traditional cartography, in which landscapes are often represented from an anthropocentric and extractive perspective. Instead, they focus on the many meanings a landscape can hold for both people and more-than-human beings.

On Saturday 10 October, Bouts prepares an activity for children aged four and up and their caretakers, introducing them to the practice of deep mapping. The activity will be conducted in Dutch and English. If you cannot make this event, feel free to go by Sonsbeek’s visitor desk in Molenplaats to pick up colouring pages and masks that are all made by her.
