Agung Kurniawan, Remember Day Parade and after, 2016

Agung Kurniawan is one of Indonesia's most important contemporary artists. In addition to being an artist, Kurniawan is also an activist. He takes a clear stand on political, social, and cultural issues. His work, which is often considered rude or bold, is often about themes such as violence, politics, and tabboes.

Kurniawan is convinced the Dutch government and its citizens never fully recognised the Dutch colonial history. He also feels that the current generation of Indonesian people is not fully aware about what happened, and he wants to increase this awareness. In order to do so, Kurniawan organised a performance

This performance, entitled Remember Day Parade and after, was part of the group exhibition TransHISTORY at Museum Arnhem, at 2 June 2016. Participants were dressed as characters from colonial times, for example the army, KNIL soldiers, guerilla fighters and citizens. Starting at city hall, the performance lead to the garden of Museum Arnhem where a pseudo-religious closing ceremony took place. Remnants from the performance, such as the altar, costums, and images of the performance were part of the exhibition in Museum Arnhem.
