Charles Lim, SEA STATE 2: as evil disappears, 2012, SEA STATE 7: sandwich, 2015

Since 2005, artist Charles Lim Yi Yong, based in Singapore, works on SEA STATE. This series of works examines the contours of Singapore from the perspective of the sea. In doing so, the artists shows a different view of everyday surroundings: from hidden landschapes, and dissapearing islands, to imaginairy borders of future land. By using video recordings, photos, and digital drawings, Lim maps how humans create land, causing the sea level to rise and small islands such as Pulau Sajahat to dissapear.
A former Olympic sailer, Lim studied Fine Art at the Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London. His performances, drawings, photos, and videos emanate from his fascination with nature.
This work was part of the group exhibition TransHISTORY at Museum Arnhem, part of SONSBEEK '16.
