Cut and Rescue, Gerobak Sablon Gerobak Sodor, 2016

In the Malburgen district, a unique means of transport was on display: Gerobak Sablon, ‘cart with screen prints’ in Javanese. This cart was made by the artist collective Cut And Rescue from Indonesia. Do you have something to exchange? Then choose a screen print, Cut And Rescue printed T-shirts, bags, or stickers with it. The screen prints were inspired by their experiences during their month-long stay in Malburgen.

Cut And Rescue also organized a festival where games, which were popular among the residents, were given a different meaning. Competition, the most important ingredient for capitalism, was explored during this festival. Gerobak Sodor is a play on words of ‘Gobak Sodor’, a traditional Javanese game.

Ruangrupa invited different collectives to explore different Arnhem neighborhoods, to draw attention to different places in the city. Cut and Rescue was one of them. In a multi-disciplinary way, they shared, researched, and developed ideas to remind 'the public' that culture is still very much alive.

After World War II, Malburgen became a new part of the city across the Rhine in the south. In the run up to SONSBEEK '16, ruangrupa and the ruru huis worked with different groups in this neighborhood, such as football club Arnhemia.
