Jan Rothuizen, sonsbeekcity, 2016
In the so-called Steile Tuin ('Steep Garden'), at the time close to the ranger Jeroen's house, artist Jan Rothuizen showed the world in which we live in his own characteristic style. Rothuizen is the creator of the Zachte Atlas van Amsterdam, which is about the city where he lives and works. However, in order to make his drawings, he also visited a refugee camp in Iraq, an electronics factory in Shenzhen, and the city Bogota in Columbia.
For SONSBEEK '16, Jan reflected on park Sonsbeek. Designed in a romantic English countryside style, the park invites you to roam around and reconnect with your true emotions. Although it remains a hiding place for trees and animals, park Sonsbeek is also part of a big city, as is shown on Rothuizen's map.
