The mythological creature Buroq and Nagaliman, which represents the unattainable, is well-known in Jatiwangi and different northern regions of West-Java. Buroq and Nagaliman is part human, part mythological animal, shaped like a cart. Buroq was first used by Kanjeng Sunan Kalijaga to preach Islam for his citizens. Nagaliman is a kind of cart, used during cultural events by the king of Cirebon. Buroq represents faith and Nagaliman the sociopolitical aspect.
Nowadays, Buroq is used during big festivals. In Jatiwangi, people believe mythes can trigger societal change.
