KUNSTrePUBLIK, VVest Life, 2016

Between the Zijpendaalseweg and the Grote Vijver stood a special parliament where people could comment on the current migration crisis in Europe in a special way. The parliament was shaped like a star, referring to the stars on the EU flag. This flag was made of the most prominent symbol for migration over water: the life jacket. Inside you could hear people shouting and cheering like football supporters while commenting on the crisis.
They were encouraging voices of people who come up with new ideas for current issues of Western society. How do we approach integration? How can we be in solidarity? How can we learn from each other? How can we participate?
KUNSTrePUBLIK is an artist collective from Berlin that investigates the potential and limitations of art in public space. For SONSBEEK ’16 they asked the public for constructive feedback. You could send your feedback via www.vvestlife.eu and the texts were then transformed into a ‘stadium symphony’ that could be heard in the parliament. Instead of cheering on the Dutch national team during the European Championship, you could chant new ideas for Europe.
