Mixrice and Galerie De Vijf Ramen, Mixfruit: Arnhem edition, 2016

Monstrously big, exotic fruit was displayed at Gallery De Vijf Ramen. Residents of Klarendal, and artists from Seoul, known as Mixrice, created them together. In order to create Mixfruit, Mixrice organised fruit making workshops together with people from Klarendal, using it as an entry point to discuss sensitve topics such as immigration in a typical, middle-sized, properous, Western- European city like Arnhem.

Immigration is a well-known phenomenon for residents of Klarendal. A working-class neighborhood, Klarendal was upgraded the past few years. More and more studios, fashion designers and new galleries opened their doors, for example Galerie De Vijf Ramen.

Mixrice stayed in Klarendal for a month. They talked to residents while making fruit objects and reminiscing together. The results from the conversations were shown in installations in Galerie De Vijf Ramen and other public spaces in Arnhem. For ruangrupa, this project aimed to draw more attention to Klarendal as a neighborhood.
