Sivanksi, Untitled and Untitled, 2016
When visiting Café Brigant (now Café Bosch) during SONSBEEK '16, it was like stepping back into the eighties. At the time, this iconic building was in the hands of the Arnhem squatting movement. The outside wall of Hotel Rembrandt, the opposite building, was filled with activist graffiti. This time, it was up to Arnhem-based illustration and tattoo artist Sivankski to have her way with the wall of Café Brigant.
For SONSBEEK '16, Sivanski had to work on concrete instead of soft skin. What happens when an artists interprets city surfaces as human skin? The sometimes cold and distant city becomes a litttle bit more welcoming and accesible. Sivanski's murals can be described as playful combinations of figurative and abstract elements.
